Is downtown austin safe to walk around



  Lots of the East side is so busy that it is safe to walk. But it depends on which street and where you are headed. Your hotel is in a fine. In my experience, most of downtown is fairly safe. Of course, you'll want to use common sense just like in any city (i.e. stay alert and stick. Austin is very safe, you will be fine. As others have said, it is a major city, so don't be stupid. Avoid East of 35, and don't go cutting through.
